Mastectomy is the surgical operation during which the whole breast is removed from the chest wall. There are three types of mastectomy:

• Radical modified mastectomy
• Skin – sparing mastectomy and removal of the nipple - areola with immediate reconstruction
• Nipple- sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction

Armpit Surgery

Since the past few years, the armpit surgery included the evacuation of axilla, the removal of all axillary lymph nodes regardless if they had been infiltrated by tumor cells or not.

In the early 2000s the concept of sentinel lymph node began timidly to be used, that is the first lymph node that receives all fluids drained from the breast and thus the breast tumor.
